CNHS Research

The research conducted within The College of Nursing and Health Sciences focuses on enhancing care, promoting health and comfort, and minimizing the impact of disease and disability; and also serves as an agent of societal transformation. Through this research there are two emerging broad themes of excellence: The phenomenon of chronic disease/disability in individuals, families and communities throughout the life span, and "health of the public" i.e., population-based research and interventions. CNHS faculty in partnership with their colleagues from within the University and throughout the world are examining these themes by conducting diverse types of inquiry, their perspectives joined in a common stream of activity under these expansive areas of study.

Click here for a collection of some of the scholarly research publications in which the CNHS faculty have appeared. This is a working list, and will be periodically updated.

Office of Nursing Workforce Research, Planning and Development

In collaboration with The College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the Office of Nursing Workforce Research, Planning and Development (ONW) was established in December of 2001 by a grant from the state of Vermont, Agency of Human Services. The purpose of this initiative is to implement the recommendations of the Blue Ribbon Nursing Commission in response to the Vermont nursing shortage.

Activities of the ONW include the following: Design, conduct, and report the findings of the nature of the nursing workforce in Vermont; communicate and collaborate with the state college system, Agency of Human Services, UVM, AHEC and health care providers regarding the Vermont nursing workforce; secure grant funding for the long-term viability of the office; coordinate with other statewide initiatives such as the Freeman Nurse Scholars Program and student loan repayment. Research findings, workshops for experienced nurses, inactive nurse re-entry information, and content promoting nursing careers can be found at the ONW website.
